Dieting

Quite Simply. We diet to lose weight. Usually the motivating factor involves fitting into that perfect outfit... or shocking friends/foes that you haven't seen in a while. There are way too many benefits to taking the time and thinking about what we are putting into our body to not give it a whirl.
  • you may not experience the toll that many serious illnesses can take on an unhealthy body
  • your energy level will increase
  • your immune system will become stronger which will mean fewer illnesses
A few things that I have come to realize:

  • Just because you eat a lot doesn't mean you aren't undernourished. If you aren't getting a varied, balance diet then you are basically still running on empty.
  • A diet will prevent and treat certain chronic conditions. Healthy eating can prevent the risk of developing cancer and heart disease. It helps control diabetes and high blood pressure, and can even reduce symptoms and manage an illness or symptom.
  • Most "off the grid" medica will recommend dietary changes to manage everything from epilepsy to infertility.
My goal this weekend is to come out with a complete 2 week meal plan and grocery list.

Nutrition is something that I currently struggle with... but if I can do Plyometrics... I can do this. I've been reading The Abs Diet books and watching a few videos... I'm ready to take this to the next level...

Nutrition

I just purchased the Abs Diet book this evening. I'm going to read it. Make my grocery list and see how it goes. I feel like I have a good grip on the exercise portion of this... I can't believe that I am even in a position to say that! It's following through and getting the logistics down for cooking and eating regularly that's gonna be a doozie for me.

P90X - Shoulder & Arms - Day 3

Muscle confusion (the principle of changing your routines to keep your body guessing) is the TRUTH!!!!

I enjoy doing the upper body workouts. I'm pretty secure in my ability to make it to the end of the workout. I already know that I'm going to be tired, winded, and sore... but this week...

Whew!!!

With INTENSITY comes fatigue... and my butt was whooped this morning on what still s one of my favorite workouts... lol

P90X - Plyometrics - Day 2

Man-O-Manechevitz!!! ( I know that it's spelled Manischewitz) lol


The key word for today.... INTENSITY!!!!

I brought the guns with me today... I made sure I lifted higher... pushed myself a little bit more.

And felt the difference.... At the 24 minute mark... I thought that I was gonna hurl... FOR REAL!

Then I remember when Tony, at the beginning of the video, said... GET YA BUCKET!

I truly know what he meant by that now.

But do I ever feel wonderful!!!!

P90X - Chest & Back - Ab Ripper X (Day 1)

Getting back on the horse full force is something else man...

All I kept thinking was... After this I get a reward...

What do I reward myself with you ask?

P90X Recovery Drink of course!!!!! Tastes like a orange creamcicle... I put my bottle of water AND my sports bottle in the freezer at the beginning of my workout and when I'm done I make a b-line for the freezer. Pour that bottle of water that usually has a few ice chips in it directly into my ice cold sports bottle and then rip open a packet of thw P90X Recovery Drink, Shake it up real good till it has a good froth on top then I sit in my easy chair and drink that thing down... Oh it feels so good too. Click the link to find it in the Beachbody Store... It is awesome!

Chest and Back is something man. It's probably my favorite of the workouts. I have never had a great deal of upper body strength and this work continues to defy what I think that I am capable of. I still can't do the Decline Push-Up or the Dive Bombers but...

but....


but...

I actually did Ab Ripper X... immediately following the 60 minute Chest & Back Routine!!!!!!

I was frowning... panting... and cussing... I took more breaks than all of them on the screen combined... but you know what???

Never have I felt so accomplished! Every single day I get up and press play... and I feel like I can conquer the world! It's amazing what working out does to my psyche... my confidence... and my ability to focus on the various tasks that I have set on my calendar. Getting up a 5:00 am ( I had to push the time back so that I can have the time to do Ab Ripper X... I was using the time factor as one of my excuses as to why I couldn't do it) and checking P90X off my list is an amazing thing.

I can do this... And So Can You!

Lesson's Learned

After a much needed conversation with my Coach Derek and my friend Ty, I have a renewed sense of committment to my health journey. My mind was racing with thoughts as I hung up the phone. This one prevailed... and carried over to this morning.

We are so quick to redirect a child's behavior when they step over the line.

We don't give them candy before bedtime

We are always suggesting (or orchestrating) playdates to keep them active

We are always telling them... EAT YOUR VEGGIES!!!!

Why is it that we hold them to a standard that we do not honor in ourselves?

Children learn by IMITATION and REPETITION.

Who are they imitating if not us? Think about it.

I haven't posted since my birthday but I'm still pressing play ladies.

I felt a bit sick this morning and my mood isn't as chipper as it has been as of late... but I'm gonna keep it moving. I'm going to start my program all over... My birthday week sort of knocked me off my square as far as diet was concerned I'm still working out but not at the intensity that I know lies within me.

So come Monday... I'm gonna set fire to all this lusciousness... The P90X way!

P90X - Classic - Char's Day 19

Yeah I'm a little late with my post this morning...

It's been a busy day already... lol

Legs and Back wasn't so bad today. Still getting the slight nausea but no where as bad as it was when I first began this program.

I brought it a little harder this week so I am very proud of that...

and in the famous words of Tony Horton... That recovery drink is MONEY!!!!!

I usually put a bottle of water in the freezer right before I begin my workout and then pour that icy goodness in my water bottle, add the recovery drink mix, and then shake it till I get a good froth on the top... Yummy!

I thinking of these last three weeks as an opportunity for me to see what my body can do... getting a feel for P90X and my abilities within it.

Things I know...
  1. I feel stronger,
  2. My lung capacity had increased,
  3. I feel better about myself.

What better reason than that do I need to keep pressing play?

Well I have a couple of clients that are looking to me for advice, guidance, and clarification. That will help me to bring it hard every time I press play!

Have an awesome Thursday. Today is the last day that I will walk this earth as a 33 year old woman. Tomorrow is my birthday!!!!!!

P90X - Classic - Char's Day 18

Curses, Curses, Curses....

***CHARPOWERFITNESS MINI CONFESSIONAL***

My eyes opened at 5:20AM.... Alarm blaring in the next room...

I looked over to my right to see if that mule that was there a couple of weeks ago had passed out from the exhaustion that he must be experiencing from kicking me in the head. He couldn't be found.

I got out of the bed... trudged to the bathroom to find the alarm clock

and... And... AND...

I PRESSED THE SNOOZE BUTTON!!!!!!!!!!!

*GASP*

Got right back in my bed (then I got right out of it three minutes later out of guilt)

Popped Yoga X in and... PRESSED PLAY.

Where is a Topamax when ya need one!

I only made it to the 30 minute mark before my head felt like it was going to explode and I was gonna hurl.

Since I knew that it would look like a massacre in my apartment that I did not want to experience the joy of cleaning my carpet as a result of going forward.. I stretched my way right outta there.

Eventhough I didn't get as far as I did last week. i feel good about pressing through and getting in my 30 minutes.

You ever watch that one man comedy show with... George Lopez?

It's the one where he says... "I got a pain in my chess and I cannot breaf"

Yeah... Say it just like that!

Or... Sanford & Son when Redd Foxx would grip his chest and look skyward saying "Ya, hear me Elizabeth... I'm coming to join ya honey... With... (whatever was causing him anxiety at the moment)

(If not... you need to step ya Comedy Central & Nick At Night game up... lol)

Well I got a pain in my side... and I can "breaf" just fine... NOW... hehehe And Elizabeth is going be waiting a while because I got Tony and the Kids in my sight!

Lawd-a-Mercy!

Every day... Is brand new in P90X.

Muscle Confusion is a beautiful thing...

Every Day... another muscle group is sore.

And the crazy thing is this...

I now look for that... soreness like it's a friend.

I am so enjoying my workouts...

They make me cuss...

They make me grunt...

They make me wobble...

But...

I am getting stronger...

My form is getting better...

And I continue to Press Play.

It's Tuesday yall!

I started bringing it at 5:30 this morning and I'm going to keep that momentum going throughout my workday!

Oh!!!! I am so excited that my Recovery Drink and my Coaching Kit will be arriving today!!!!

P90X - Classic - Char's Day 16

Yet another morning that my alarm goes off and I have had less than six hours of sleep.

I was so disoriented. I purposely keep my alarm clock in the bathroom (which is right next to my bedroom) so that I have to get up and move around in order to turn that thing off. At 5:30 in the morning... If that was in my bedroom I would turn it off and roll right back to la la land... lol

So I get up and walk with my eyes closed... to turn it off.

AND THEN I PRESS PLAY!!!!!

Evil... Evil... Evil...

Plyo & Nausea are synonymous for me... BUT not nearly as bad as week 1!!!!!

I'm getting stronger... my form is getting better... And I am hella excited about that.

There are a few moves where I can't leave the ground just yet but I just modify those and get on my tippy toes and reach as high as I can.

I'll be airborne soon with those....

I'll get you Tony Horton... next time

Oh yeah... There will be a next time...
This ain't over until the fat lady sings... Lucky for me buy the time I start singin'... I won't be a fat lady any more... lol

P90X - Classic - Char's Day 15

Today is the day.... I realize... I have no core strength... lol

Sad yes... I know. I'm determined to change that.

Today Was Chest & Back. I got in really late last night from a concert and really didn't think that I would be up to meet my buddies in WOWY.

I feel great about my performance... although I still haven't been able to get up from that dive bomber. But that's better than not trying it at all... lol

But... Alas... at 8:15 this morning... my eyes were opened and I crawled out of bed.

I brought it today... and guess what?

I did Ab Ripper X!

Almost as soon as I got through the In & Outs I felt like I had to vomit. Yeah... it was rough. I kept pressing through the pain and discomfort and was able to do a good portion of it. My belly fat makes some of the moves awkward but I am doing my best. Even though I know that I'm not doing some of the moves exactly as Tony & the Kids are... I know I am doing my best. Each time I do an exercise my body is going to get stronger and stronger.

P90X - Classic - Char's Day 14

Ok...

Ok!

OK!!!!

I truly approached this X Stretch as *just* a stretch.... BAD MOVE Char... lol

You would think that I should know better by now. Tony don't play that!!!!

There was one move that I couldn't even imagine doing... I can't think of the name of it but you start out on your back and slowly bring your legs in the air... straight up until your back is off the floor and you are basically resting on your shoulders!!!

WHAT?

I modified that move real quick. The day that I'm able to do that move without modification I'm gonna celebrate like you wouldn't believe!!!

I have always thought that I am pretty flexible... but there are some parts of my body that I can't wait to disappear. My belly for one thing... And my boobs... Those things get in the way like nobody's business!

Poof I say... BE GONE!!! Hahahahaha!

I know that all of these things will come in time. I am pressing through the discomfort and getting closer and closer to my mark... It's in my sights and I'm not losing focus!

P90X - Classic - Char's Day 12

I'm Alive...

This was a rough day. Not exercisewise... but life event wise... lol

I almost didn't get my workout in but eventhough my body was unwilling... I made it through!

I press on to take hold of that for which I have set in my sights... I am determined to get better and better... and exceed even my own expectations.

Legs and Back WHOOPED my butt!!!

And I loved it...

I feel good about what I'm doing here... I am confident that each step I take is moving me one step closer to where I need and want to be.

Life is good... and is only going to get better. I decided to become a part of the Team Beachbody Family and become a coach... I am excited at the prospects of helping others and the potential to affect change in peoples lives for the better.

What better way to do that than by teaching people about healthier lifestyles!
